Exemption Letter Verification | NYSC Discharge Certificate Collection Procedure – Are you ready to collect your NYSC discharge certificate? In most cases, one may exceed the NYSC Age Limit for orientation camp, in which case the NYSC Discharge Certificate may be issued. We have the NYSC Collection Procedure in place to assist all graduates who are simply looking for an exemption letter.
The Procedure for NYSC Senate List Checker and Verification is the same as the Procedure for NYSC Discharge Certificate Collection. Follow the steps and instructions outlined below.

Procedures for obtaining and verifying NYSC discharge certificates
VERIFICATION OF NATIONAL SERVICE CERTIFICATE
“A person shall NOT be called upon to serve in the service corps with effect from 1 August 1985 if, at the time of graduation or obtaining his diploma or other professional qualification”:
He is thirty (30) years old or older.
He has served for more than nine months in the Armed Forces of the Federation or the Nigeria Police Force; or He is a member of the staff of any of the following:
The Nigerian Security Organization, also known as the State Security Service, the National Intelligence Agency, or the Defence Intelligence Service, is a government intelligence agency in Nigeria.
He has not received any national honors.
As a result, these individuals are exempt from service and are given Certificates of Exemption.
ELIGIBILITY
Nigerian graduates with a stipulated qualification of (B.SC, B.A, or HND) from an approved or accredited Institution by (NUC, NTBE, or NCCE) are eligible for an exemption certificate, whereas foreign-trained graduates must submit their certificates to the Mobilization Department for evaluation.
Collection/Verification of NYSC Discharge Certificates – Local Trainee
COLLECTION OF EXEMPTION CERTIFICATE FOR HOME TRAINED GRADUATES PROCESS
The Corps Producing Institutions start the process.
The universities were present. The school sends NYSC a master list of their graduates, as well as the Senate-approved result.
NYSC uses a printout to classify those who will be called up for service and those who will be exempt. This print-out is returned to the institutions for verification and corrections before being returned to NYSC as an agreed-upon/corrected document.
The Certificates of Exemption are printed, documented, and returned to the Institutions for distribution to the appropriate people.
Please note that home-trained graduates must collect their Certificate of Exemption from the institution where they graduated, not from the NYSC office.
Collection/Verification of NYSC Discharge Certificates – Foreign Trainees FOREIGN TRAINED GRADUATES
The evaluation of credentials and other related documents, such as an international passport, is the first step.
Following the evaluation of credentials, the foreign-trained graduate is physically registered at the NYSC directorate headquarters in Abuja. The classification of who will be called up or who will be exempted is determined at the time of registration.
Those who are exempt from service are issued Certificates of Exemption.
For foreign graduates, such Certificates of Exemption must be picked up at the NYSC directorate headquarters at the time specified.
Please be aware:
Certificates of Exemption are collected in three batches throughout the service year, depending on the date of registration. Exempted graduates would also be informed of this at the time of registration.
The bearer must be physically present when collecting the Certificate of Exemption, which requires identification such as an international passport.
CORRECTIONS/COMPLAINTS
Complaints and corrections for home-trained graduates should be directed to graduation institutions. The school then sends such cases to NYSC with all necessary attachments, such as a photocopy of the printout, for rectification or further action.
Foreign-trained graduates must submit a handwritten application with a photocopy of their international passport data page and the original Certificate of Exemption to the Director-General, NYSC NDHQ, Abuja, along with their address and phone number.
REPLACEMENT
Following are the steps to take if your Certificate of Exemption is lost.
Trained at home
A letter of notification/request addressed to the Director-General, NYSC, and routed through the institution of graduation.
Court Affidavit/Extract from Police Report
A copy of the lost Foreign-Trained Certificate of Exemption, if available.
A letter of notification or request to the NYSC Director-General.
Court Affidavit/Extract from Police Report
International passport photocopy
A copy of the lost Certificate of Exemption, if one exists.
Note: The Scheme has a policy of not reprinting lost or burned Certificates. Instead, Confirmation Letters are sent out.
COLLECTION/REPLACEMENT OF NATIONAL SERVICE CERTIFICATE
Procedures for obtaining a Certificate of National Service
The State Certification Officers at the Directorate headquarters issue Certificates of National Service to State Secretariats three times a year for delivery to deserving Corps members.
Certificates are issued only to Corps members who have been duly discharged from National Service and who have presented letters of clearance from their employers, CDS Inspectors, and their I.D card.
On full repayment of the loans, those who benefited from the WAP loan facility will receive theirs.
Members of the Corps who have pending disciplinary cases are not certified until they are cleared.
NATIONAL SERVICE CERTIFICATE LOST
Following are the steps to take if your Certificate of Exemption is lost.
- Court Affidavit/Extract from Police Report
- State of Service Letter of Introduction from which the Ex-Corps member is discharged
- A copy of the lost Certificate, if one is available.
- The Scheme has a policy of not reprinting lost or burned Certificates.
- Instead, Confirmation Letters are issued.
A CERTIFICATE ERROR
If you find an error on your certificate, return it to the State Certification Officer as soon as possible so that the error can be corrected.
Ex-Corps members’ signatures on the format during the orientation exercise are used to create certificates.
If you want to go to NYSC NDHQ to get your corrected certificate, you must bring the following items:
Introduction letter from the NYSC State Secretariat to the Director-General.
Application in handwriting
NOTE: A proxy cannot be used to obtain a Certificate of National Service.
